Hey everyone,
How have you all been? Straight off the bat, congratulations to everyone who recently received their GCSE or A-Level results. To clarify for my overseas audience, GCSEs and A Levels are English education certificates. Similar to the International Baccalaureate. Apologies to my American viewers, I'm not too learned on your education system. Either way, I hope you all achieved the grades you wished for and deserved. It's been two months and an adventurous Summer Holiday (That is drawing to a close here in England) -Since we've got together to read another blog post. My fault, but no one has been lazy this holiday! I've received a bunch of great work. One of which is one of the headers above given by Allison, a new member of the team. Her recent work has been making social media logos and backgrounds that you may have seen around the website. But if you want to get the full scope, why don't you head over to Switch's Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and Instagram and leave a few likes since you're there. And you might as well follow and subscribe? Even if you don't, at least visit for the art. Trust me, it's worth it ;). And now, What you guy's really want to hear. How has the visual novel been coming along?
The introduction of the visual novel has officially finished! And the story itself is about to commence! Finally, might we add! And also, there are a few rumours of having an animation in the beginning few scenes of the Visual Novel that may be conducted by our dear friends Akiko and Mauva. This may actually come to fruition in the near future if we are lucky :).
I've also received a huge ton of music that honestly, doesn't even need to be in a game for you to Jam to! Honestly, it's amazing. So thanks a bunch to our Musicians, especially the new musical addition to the team, Naledi. Another newbie is Alvana who recently contributed a lot of amazing character art. On top of this, I have also been in possession of some trippy new sketches by our hands-on artists, "SPC" and "AyanaG" that are now available in the re-stocked and reviewed Assets page for digitialising :). So now a little plot orientation. The introduction is officially finished and the narrator, who now has the default unisex name of "Jamie" (If the player is somehow unable to come up with a name), has FINALLY got up from their starting position and started to move around. However, little secret between me and you; there is a certain path that you can take in the beginning to give yourself an eternal biting and half-tame little buddy. So far the idea of said tiny buddy has been working perfectly, however I will need to back up this concept with programming to make sure there is still continuity and the idea is entirely plausible throughout the story. Jamie is now beginning his/her journey to the warehouse where he/she will come off to a great (!) start with Cordelia and also where the first few chapters of the story begin to unravel. Geez! It's so hard to construct a comprehensive sentence with as few pronouns as possible...
So what's next?
I've finally updated the Assets page. This time it actually has Assets that appeal to the musically talented and some opportunities for our opportune sketchers. Great addition right? Now anyone can try their hand at a bit of doodling. So, does anyone recall earlier in this same blog post when I said that the Narrator could aquire a little biting buddy and sidekick at the beginning of the visual novel by choosing certain options? Well, my team may have recognised this as a reference to "Jerry". A cute but vicious little monster. A "NightWalker" to be precise. A small hybrid creature similar to a frog and/or snake or lizard. Either way, After some thinking, I was wondering whether such a complex entity could draw some errors in the future. Therefore, I'm handing this to you. I would be able to handle the errors but here's a little thought - what if Jerry was a different species? Would a miniature human accomplice be a bit more enticing? What about a elven fairy? Or perhaps it's better to scrap the whole idea for now and add it in later when the plot is clearer? Either way, I have constructed a poll to get your opinion. If you have a completely different idea other than those listed, IT IS WELCOME. However, let's try not to be too cliché...
Should the Narrator have an accomplice in the beginning of the story (NytWalk)?
Finally, I really want to say a huge sorry and an even bigger thank you to ALL of you who have been working so hard towards this Visual Novel. I can't stress enough that without you, NONE of this would ever be possible and I owe any and all success to you. I'm proud of you guys for a) putting yourself out there to contribute to a project that may not even be as popular as we hoped and b) sticking up for me and with me and emailing me when I have been gone for long periods bringing suggestions and handling life because life is hard. And I appreciate you guys so much. Honestly, as an aspiring Game Dev with a small fanbase just trolling through the internet, I couldn't have asked for a better team.
Woo, you guys might just make me cry. Just... Thank you for supporting me so much. And with that, I must conclude this rather long blog post. Did you know that during the course of writing this, my computer decided to delete a whole paragraph of writing? I had to re write that stuff and it was very tedious remembering all the points I had to address. Can you guess which paragraph it was? ;) What do I need to work on?
